Tiwa Savage
The third season of Shuga will definitely be the most exciting of the drama so far going by the plethora of artistes featured. At the Ember Creek in Ikoyi-Lagos where the cast and crew gathered for the first shooting of the HIV awareness and sex education drama recently, there was an infectious synergy among them. From all indications, it seems the ‘love me, love me’ crooner, Tiwa Savage is pioneering another career for herself as she received great accolades from other members of the cast as a great actress.
The director Biyi Bandele was impressed by her acting skills and described her as an amazing actress. But for Tiwa, there is a little challenge. “I have difficulty memorising lines so I get to improvise but the director Biyi is such a good director. He knows where your weaknesses and strengths are, he knows how to direct you to bring out the best in you.” Tiwa Savage plays the role of Shade Banjo, a bar owner in the TV series. Expressing enthusiasm on being a part of a project that enlightens young people about sexual relations, Tiwa hinted that she will continue to be part of the Shuga team after the series.According to the creative director of Shuga, Tim Horwood, having Shuga shot in Lagos is another way of bringing the continent together through the drama universal message which is practising safe sex. Perhaps the booming Nigeria entertainment also contributed to the crew’s choice of location. This season will have a total of 8 episodes which is the longest so far of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation drama.
Other members of the stellar cast include: Okezie Morro, the Nigerian British actor who featured in World War Z alongside Brad Pitt; Maria Okanrende, Dorcas Shola Fapson, Iceprince Zamaani, Chris Attoh, Emmanuel Ikubese who is the only returning actor of the drama, Nick Mutuma, Leonora Okine, Sharon Chisom Ezeamaka, James Timini, Kachi Nnochiri of Classic FM, Olumide Oworu, Ugbeye Owumi, Sani Mu’azu, Bikiya Graham-Douglas, KC Ejelonu, Efa Iwara, Aigbodion Izien, Nnenna Udeh, Don Flexy, Ehis Okoeguale, Silo Emem Bankole and Charles Ukpong
