This is your debut album since you won at MTN Project Fame show. What’s the album about?
I can tell you that after listening to the songs in the album titled “Sometime in August”, you would agree with me that the album guarantees a fresh breathe of air to the Naija music scene and an extra feather to the impressive achievements and visibility of the female folk in the music scene. I find a hugely seamless balance between R&B and Nigerian contemporary Pop music on the album, backed up with enchanting and strong song writing skills.
Watch out for very notable songs like “Suddenly” ft Chidinma, Body Hug ft Wizboy, End Of story and the politically charged “I Wish Say”. I show a great deal of artistic diversity and growth since winning Project Fame. In a nutshell, the album is so worth the wait and a must buy.
What was your early influence in music?
My mother was the choir mistress in the church I attended as a child. She would also remind me of how sweet my voice was when I made those innocent cries which she believed was laced with God’s given voice. On the other hand, at first, dad never liked to see me sing, he preferred to see me become a nurse. I was in school already when I entered for Project Fame and when he saw how things were turning out, he showed me tremendous support. He even printed banners and rallied support for me to win.
How has life been after winning?
I can’t say it has been very easy and I cannot complain as well. First of all, I’d prayed for this to happen to me and I must live with it. It was like one was just the kid next door and suddenly you spent three months and the national television. Anywhere I go now, people already recognise me and everyone wants to take photographs with me whether I feel good or not. I have to manage to smile 24hours a day even if I’m dying inside. In all, I still feel the simple me. My friends are still my friends, one might add a few new ones, but I don’t have airs around me.
What’s the relationship between you and Chidinma?
The interesting here is that Chidinma and I wrote JAMB exams and that was because by the time we finished Project Fame, the Nursing School I would have attended had already finished first semester exams. And it was like I have to start all over again, but Chidinma got admission.
What’s your love life like?
I’m not sure I can do a day without answering this particular question. I’m 21 years old and it means I’m still very young. I’m currently building my future and career, a romantic tie now may not do me any good.
How about your background?
I hail from Benue State, the last of a family of six and my parents are doing great with their respective businesses.
