A year on from when Samson Siasia's squad failed to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and the country's football fortunes took a nose dive, the Super Eagles returned to the continental stage in flying colours. Stephen Keshi's team defeated Liberia 8-3 on aggregate to put behind them the failure of the past and set their sights on a golden future.
Keshi brought new vibe into the team that once relied on only Europe-based players by infusing it with players from the Nigeria Premier League. This ensured that there was more competition for shirts as well as creating a viable home-based side that has gained in confidence from playing teams like Egypt, Peru and Venezuela.
Keshi's coming has also seen the addition of quality young talent from abroad into the side. Chelsea's Victor Moses has become a great addition to the squad while CSKA's Ahmed Musa has also thrived under the Big Boss. John Obi Mikel has returned to the fold as Keshi also tries to reach out to former estranged players like Peter Odemwingie and Obafemi Martins.
