Chelsea defensive midfielder John Mikel Obi is currently questioning
how often he will be playing due to the number of central midfielders
available for Rafa Benitez, after David Luiz moved from defence to
join him in the midfield. The Nigerian midfielder has admitted it is a
challenge to get used to playing with different partners in midfield,
like Lampard, Ramirez and now Luiz.
Mikel complained that, adapting to different combinations of players
was making him question his game. "It affects you because I've been
here for a long time," Mikel told Chelsea's official website. "I've
always played with Frank [Lampard] and now I've played with Rami
[Ramires] as well - they're all great players. Now I have to play with
David Luiz. "It's just a lot. I think, psychologically as well. You
think, 'If I'm playing today, who am I going to play with?' - because
they're all great players."
Mikel will need to up his style of play if he really wants to be
involved in Rafa Benitez's plan because it looks like the interim
coach is gradually preparing Chelsea for a more attacking style.
